Yesterday, we had a HemeOnc appointment at the hospital with Dr Heather Steele, who just PCSed here from BAMC. She went through plans and schedules and gave us appointments there at BAMC, so we will not show up and have to wait to schedule and she hand-picked her favorite staff, etc. So, that was very nice of her. No surprises in her information or study paper which she gave us outlining treatment plans.
After that, we set out to see how we were going to get there, needed a 3899, etc. It was initially a bit overwhelming to start, but we quickly had some help--add again to the Lord's tender mercy list--Elaine Hill and COL Walters happened to be walking down the hall and came to say hi and that I looked wobbly, did I need to sit down. So, we went to her office and spoke--also prior to that Jeff Frazier had told me that I needed to start the process myself by signing into DTS and getting TDY orders started, which is on a simple TDY to Italy, for example, frought with daily corrections and kick-backs that one has to don on the work computer, literally days of going back on forth and that being a simple TDY to Italy, for example. This was overwhelming. They suggested we call Ray Heimbuck, who has all the keys and ask him to put it in. He came right down and took that over. He said go ahead to SATO and make reservations for all three, which we did. So, that is huge! We still need to get orders from the Company for us all, but that should work easily next week when the C Co is back from TDY. So, we have plane reservations, with me being in a wheel chair for customs and not lifting anything, so that is a relief really.
While we were with the doctor and then in SATO we heard stories of 2, current 5 year survivors with the same tumour as I had doing well. One is even still active duty and PCSing here as he has always wanted to live for a time in Germany! So, those were uplifting and encouraging stories and situations modified and help to us rendered. All I can continue to do is to thank the Lord for help and sustainment and love and friends!
I have made modifications and changes in our finances too today--I have been getting up at 0400 as my night is over, but have spent some great time in the quiet thinking and spending time--so I paid off the new Mini today and have plans on how to get Euro to the German bank--so those issues seems to be settling well. We have still 1 week until flight day....so we seem to be being blessed with enough time to accomplish and think and do. One wonderful thing that happened last night was our neighbor, Herr Comptess brought over a lovely book, Remigusland which the area right here as a gift and to offer me a "trade". He has a ca 600 year old oak carved church bench, which I have loved. Bec has never seen it. It has a wonderful saying on it. Will quote it at another time. He has it in the little "Milchscheune" on the street as he has no room in his house and his children do not want it, or have no room. He came and offered a trade for "Zufahrtsrecht" to his property, which has no outside street connection, not to really drive, but to give him access in case his Erdewaermepumpe (Earth warmth pump, no idea how to say that in English. So, he offered to give me the bench in exchange, which I am totally thrilled with the option! The other item coming from that is I went up to Family Mueller, who is buying the neighbors' house who died in the winter and wanted to buy from us a piece of the garden to connect to a strip of Garden parallel to our yard. So, now we will do both items at the Notar--sell her this little garden chunk, which we were going to sell anyway as we do NOT need more garden and especially now, plus the Zufahrtsrecht--appointment made next week. That is just a wonderful little couple of things to have arranged and settled!
Bec and Kathleen Sowell are now pricing yard sale things, so what a wonderful thing to have some time with her. She is one of the originals here in the ward with us the last 20 years and loves old things, flee markets, etc. So many, many, wonderful friends!
